PARKOUR & ACROBATICS PROGRAM FAQ
At Santa Barbara Trapeze Co. (SBTC), we offer exceptional coaching and a unique culture. Our goal is to help you become the best, most well-rounded individual, all while having fun! We believe in learning from and teaching each other, ensuring you have a great time and learn something new with every session.
Through the lens of Social and Emotional Learning, our coaches undergo specialized training for each class type they teach. We continuously optimize class management, skill teaching and safety training under the supervision of our General Manager, Cameron Pratto, who has over 25 years of professional coaching experience and was trained directly by the founders of Parkour and Natural Movement. You can read more about Cameron [here].
The majority of SBTC Parkour and Flip classes are taught by our Director of Acrobatics, Drew Janssen, who was a collegiate cheerleader and has more than 10 years of professional coaching experience in parkour and competitive gymnastics. You can read more about Drew [here].
Absolutely! You can join us for a trial class by purchasing a Drop-In for $50. This amount can be credited towards the one-time $75 registration fee when you sign up for a full membership. Our membership options include 1, 2, 4, or Unlimited classes per week.
Important: More than one trial class may be necessary before signing up for an official membership. It's important for students to demonstrate adequate listening skills, the ability to follow directions and a clear understanding of instructions to ensure their safety and the safety of others.
Since we operate several classes simultaneously, running away from the class or not listening to the coach's instructions can pose a danger to themselves, other students and coaches. If needed, we may suggest an additional trial class and/or private lessons before completing the membership signup process.
Before your first class, please fill outour online waiver form. If you're under 18, a parent or legal guardian must complete and sign the waiver. Schedule your first class online or call our office for assistance. Arrive 15 minutes early to meet your coach, learn the rules and get ready for an hour of fun! After you’ve filled out a waiver, click[here]to sign up.
We encourage consistency for better skill development and recommend coming to the same class(es) each week, but we understand that schedules can change. If you can’t make a class you’ve committed to or need to change your schedule with us, please send an email to hello@sbtrapezeco.com at least two hours before the class so we can open your spot for someone else.
Yes, we offer makeup classes as credits, also known as rollover classes. Members with 1, 2, or 4 classes per week can accrue classes if they miss any. These credits can be shared between siblings who are also members, and the value of those credits can be used for Camps, Birthday Parties and Parent’s Night Out. Rollover classes remain active as long as you’re a member. Because of the nature of the Unlimited membership, rollover class credits do not accrue.
To receive a rollover class credit, you must email us at hello@sbtrapezeco.com at least two hours before your scheduled class. If you miss a class without notifying us, you will lose that credit.
You can either freeze or cancel your membership. A freeze costs $10 per month, which is credited towards future tuition. The maximum freeze period is six months, and during this time, rollover classes are extended accordingly. Rollover classes cannot be used during a freeze. Cancellation deactivates your account, requiring you to repay the $75 registration fee if you return. All rollover classes expire immediately upon cancellation, not at the end of the billing cycle. Please email us to freeze or cancel your membership. Read our full Membership Policy[here].
Our Littles Parkour Class is available for children 4-6 years old. We offer Parkour and Flip classes for ages 6-10, 10-15, and 16+. Our curriculum is designed for all ages and body types, ensuring safe and progressive learning for everyone.
We overlap our age groups to accommodate the unique needs of each student. For instance, a new 6-year-old might start in the 6-10 age group class, but the coach, student or parent may determine that they would benefit from some experience in the 4-6 age group first. Similarly, a new 10-year-old might try the 10-15 age group class, but we may collectively decide that starting in the 6-10 age group would be more beneficial. Ultimately, our SBTC coaches will assess and decide which class best suits each student to ensure they receive the most effective training.
Wear comfortable, non-restrictive clothing. Avoid jewelry and loose clothing that might get caught. Bring closed-toe athletic shoes that are lightweight, flexible and have grippy bottoms. Do not wear CROCS, Birkenstocks, flip-flops, clogs, slippers or slides.
These terms refer to various physical movements like running, jumping, vaulting, climbing, crawling and rolling. Parkour focuses on efficient movement, Freerunning emphasizes creative and aesthetic movements, and Art Du Deplacement (ADD) is the original discipline from which Parkour and Freerunning evolved. Read more about their origins[here].
MovNat is a fitness system that focuses on practicing natural human movements to improve physical competence, health and well-being. It includes activities like running, jumping, crawling, balancing, climbing, lifting, carrying, throwing and catching. Our General Manager, Cameron Pratto, is an expert in MovNat and has taught movement workshops and certifications worldwide.
Our training environment is designed to be safe and accessible for all ages and body types. We emphasize "earning movement," ensuring students master basics before progressing to intermediate and advanced skills. Our classes and curriculum are structured to help you develop safe and healthy training habits.
Each class lasts one hour and includes joint mobility exercises, a warm-up, skill training, strength work, stretching, a cool down and announcements. We tailor our teaching to meet the needs of each student and create a supportive environment. While we don’t have an official ranking system, we work closely with students to ensure they are progressing appropriately.
If you miss the warm-up portion (first 10 minutes), you cannot participate in that class. If you know you'll be late, call our front office at(805) 350-9802. While we may accommodate a separate warm-up, this isn't guaranteed and cannot become a regular occurrence. If you are more than 15 minutes late, you won’t be able to join the class.
